Family reunions are great in concept: a special occasion where multiple generations come together, share stories, and carry on traditions that build community and leave happy, lasting memories. But then there are practical questions: Where is everyone going to stay? For larger gatherings (~50 people), it’s a choice between a hotel, vacation rental, or inn buyout. Which one is best, and more importantly, which one will make life easier on you as you put this together?
Hotel
It seems simple. There are plenty of hotels, plenty of rooms, and everything can be booked with a few clicks. The issue is that your family reunion won’t be the only thing going on at any hotel. So, while every pod in your group may have a room, you likely won’t have a space where you can ALL gather (unless you pay extra for a conference room that only has chairs in it).
Plus, there’s no guarantee the rooms will be together, and you’ll always need to go offsite for activities, which can make things much more expensive.
Vacation Rental
It sounds nice: just have everyone stay in the same big house! But how many houses do you know can comfortably accommodate 20, 30, or 40+ people? Not that many, and the ones that can are VERY expensive. And vacation rentals are notorious for complicated check-in processes. Can you imagine grandma having to plug a code into an app to open the gate, and then use a QR code for the door?
On top of that, most places require guests to clean up after themselves when it comes to bedding, laundry, towels, trash, and dishes. Who is going to lead that effort? That’s right: YOU. Nothing spoils a trip faster than trying to get your uncle to load the dishwasher when they have to catch a flight.
Inn Buyout
With an inn buyout, you book the entire building for a rate that is significantly cheaper than getting rooms individually. But the savings are only the smallest benefit.
When you rent the entirety of the Cranmore Mountain Lodge, a homemade breakfast is included, and you also have access to roomy and beautiful common spaces. It’s the best of both worlds with access to private rooms and common spaces for no extra charge. Between this and nearby attractions and activities, you can spend time with each other without having to travel far (and likely spend more).
And lastly, you’ll enjoy complete privacy. Your family reunion will be the only thing going on while at the Lodge, meaning the staff will be 100% focused on making sure it goes as smoothly as possible. It’s a premium level of service and attention at a non-premium price. Also, you won’t have to bug everyone to take out the trash when it’s time to go home.
